A Chinese Ghost Story II is the second chapter of the landmark trilogy, reuniting the iconic pairing of Leslie Cheung and Joey Wong. Building on the first film’s international success, producer Tsui Hark and director Ching Siu-tung expanded their creative ambition with even bolder action, richer fantasy, and stronger Taoist influences, while subtly weaving in political undertones beneath its supernatural spectacle.
Picking up where the first film ends, wandering scholar Ning Choi-san is wrongly imprisoned before becoming entangled with rebels, corrupt officials, and demonic forces. Still grieving his lost ghost lover, he meets Windy, a spirited young woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Nieh Hsiao-tsien in the original film, while her sister Moon also develops feelings for him. Joined by a mischievous Taoist ghostbuster, Ning is swept into an exhilarating battle against shape-shifting monsters and dark forces.
