Life Support

'Compulsory viewing' - Ken Loach

Since October 2023, Gaza has been sealed from the world-except for one group. International doctors breach the blockade, what they find is not just a humanitarian crisis, but a calculated dismantling of life itself.

The Garden Cinema View:

Anyone who identifies as human will find this documentary, which follows international doctors offering their services in Gaza, a tough watch. Wisely, director Daniele Rugo gives the floor entirely to them, as they speak about their heart-wrenching experiences on the ground and what it truly means to deal with casualties on a permanent basis. A permanent basis which, they remind us, is only a fraction of what Palestinian doctors face every single day.

Do we need a documentary offering this visceral horror? Yes, because it makes abstract news headlines real to the desensitised Western viewer. The doctors themselves confess they feel more empowered by going there than by staying at home as passive consumers of news.
