On Friday 17 July we'll be celebrating a New Hollywood spin on the screwball comedy with an interactive event, followed by a screening of a slight outlier in our Screwball Summer: Peter Bogdanovich's exhilaratingly chaotic homage, What's Up, Doc? Featuring iconic turns from Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal, as well as Buck Henry's (The Graduate) greatest screenplay, this is one of the most ingenious and side-splitting comedies of any era of Hollywood.
Prior to the screening, we'll host a cocktail hour where 'What's Up Daiquiris' will be served, made with local favourite, East London Rum. But the drinks won't be the only thing to get shaken up, as there's sure to be some classic comedy confusion and screwball scrambling in the Atrium Bar. All we'll say about this: keep an eye on your bag!
Please note, your personal belongings will not be interfered with as part of this event, but our actors may ask for your help to keep an eye on theirs.
Tickets for this event are available to members for £18.50 each (restricted to 2 per member, so you can bring a guest for the same price), and to non-members for £19.50. They will include a complimentary daiquiri (or non-alcoholic alternative), access to the interactive ruckus in the bar, and an allocated seat for the screening.
Event timings:
19:00 Doors open
19:30 Bag switcheroos & 'What's Up Daiquiris' in the Atrium Bar
20:30 Screening of What's Up, Doc?
22:25 Expected finish
About the film:
On a trip to San Francisco to compete for a music grant, a young researcher (Ryan O'Neal) meets a zany college dropout (Barbra Streisand). Their unpredictable and wacky relationship adds to the antics of the film when four identical plaid bags go missing with valuable contents in them.
