La Parra (12)

La Parra

La parra is the third feature film by Alberto Gracia. It is a game of mirrors, a story that blends the social and the fantastical, portraying Ferrol as a spectral place—a kind of ghostly island where nothing seems real, yet everything is rooted in a shared past. The cinematography by Ion de Sosa, a reference in new Spanish cinema, and the music by Jonay Armas create this enigmatic atmosphere that loosely evokes the films of David Lynch.

Synopsis

Damián takes part in a television game show where literalness is rewarded. His name has been placed on his shirt. When the program cuts to commercials, the story begins: Once upon a time, there was a middle-aged man living precariously in a big city. Upon receiving news that his father has died, he must return to Ferrol, his hometown. After more than twenty years away, Ferrol has become a ruin that traps everything. (Source: Tasio)
